Joe Kiani is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Masimo Foundation for Ethics, Innovation, and Competition in Healthcare — and brings vision, thought leadership, expertise, and a passion for transforming patient care and the healthcare industry to the organization. Mr. Kiani leads and oversees the Board of Directors, provides policy leadership, and presides at meetings with the Board.

Joe Kiani founded Masimo Corporation in 1989 to improve the accuracy of noninvasive patient monitoring and is considered the co-inventor of “modern pulse oximetry.” Mr. Kiani is the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Masimo Corporation, a global medical technology company headquartered in Orange County, California. Masimo develops and manufactures innovative technologies for clinicians, patients, and consumers in the areas of telehealth, consumer health, consumer audio products, and hospital automation and connectivity solutions.

Under his leadership, Masimo has grown from a “garage start up” into a successful publicly traded global medical technology company employing thousands of people worldwide. Masimo Corporation is the primary contributor to the Masimo Foundation, providing an initial endowment of $10.3 million to establish the Foundation.

More About Joe Kiani

Mr. Kiani has served on the board of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA) since 2002 and is the past chairperson of MDMA. Joe has testified before the United States Senate and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on issues related to Group Purchasing Organizations, and the patent system.
Joe also serves on the President’s Cabinet of Chapman University, as an Advisor to the College of Engineering of San Diego State University, and is on the Advisory Board of the University of California at Irvine (UCI) Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences. Mr. Kiani is the recipient of many awards, including the Society of Critical Care Innovation Award and the first IPO Champion Award from the Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation (IPOEF).

Since 1998, Mr. Kiani has been the CEO of Cercacor, a spinoff health and wellness innovator, focusing on noninvasive patient monitoring. Mr. Kiani is the co-founder, along with Mark Kassen and Chris Evans, of A Starting Point, a bipartisan video-based civic engagement platform. In 2021, Joe Kiani was appointed to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology by President Joe Biden.

Joe holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University (SDSU). He has an honorary doctorate in Science from both San Diego State University and Chapman University. Mr. Kiani is listed as the inventor of over 500 patents.
